The Wild Rose Bar & Cafe in Ashley, ND, serves up a straightforward, home-style dining experience that fits well with the town’s quiet, small-community rhythm. This spot feels like a local gathering place where the kitchen stays busy with hearty comfort food and no-nonsense portions that won’t leave anyone hungry.

Split between a casual bar side and a welcoming restaurant room, it works for both laid-back supper visits and relaxed breakfasts. The bar area, favored for evening meals, offers familiar pub-style dishes—think fish sandwiches and a rotating slate of local specials that often nod to regional comfort classics. Over in the cafe section, mornings come with generous breakfasts, likely best for visitors and locals needing a solid start before the day’s work or travel.

The menu leans heavily on familiar favorites: chicken wraps, soup options, and an array of shareable fried bites like cheese curds and jalapeño poppers, alongside kid-friendly meals such as mini corn dogs and mac & cheese. Portion sizes tend to be generous and priced accessibly, reflecting the community-focused ethos of the place.

Service is rooted in hard work and local ties, with owners and staff who balance a busy dining room without much fuss. It’s that practical, no-frills kind of friendliness that comes from being a longstanding part of Ashley’s social fabric rather than a tourist spot.

Evenings around the café tend to fill up, particularly on days with specials—like their German-themed nights—which resonate with the area’s heritage. The atmosphere can get lively without losing its down-to-earth feel, suited for families, travelers passing through, or locals meeting up for a casual meal and a cold drink.

For those passing through Ashley or local residents seeking a place with dependable comfort food, The Wild Rose offers a straightforward option where the pace is unhurried and the focus stays on solid food and community presence. Bringing an appetite is a good idea, especially if you want to try the breakfast pancakes or share the variety of fried snacks that keep people coming back.

If you stop through town and need a quick bite and simple homestyle comfort food this is the place! Hidden gems on the daily specials of local German food fair too! Say hello to "Margie" for us if you stop in! We never got her real name, but she was pretty fun and good at her job!!! It got real busy on Easter with the ham special and she had every table covered with excellence! Will be back for sure!

For not being local, staff were not really friendly. Food was ok but not great.

Stopped in town for an over night, this is where we had super and breakfast the next morning. Super was in the bar side. Good portions at a very low price. Flavor was good my only complaint is the breading on the fish sandwich was dark like it was a little over cook. Breakfast was in the restaurant side. Again we had good portions at a low price. Warning though bring an appetite if you want a pancake it is nice and thick and the size of a large dinner plate. Recommend if you are in the area.

Recently traveled the Dakotas and stopped at Ashley where my parents once farmed. This cafe was great. It’s family owned and operated. The waitress was a hard working lady and also an owner. Wonderful service and excellent food, generous portions. I would certainly recommend eating here. Sorry I missed the Thursday “German night” because my heritage is Germans from Russia.

Good food & cold drinks, always. The owners & staff work their tails off for the community. Been going for years & always enjoy my time there. Pizza to specials to pies, delicious & fair prices.
